LANDSCAPE AND VISUAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT

Effects of development on views and surrounding landscape

A Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA) helps identify the effects of new developments on views and on the surrounding landscape

Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA) is a vital tool to ensure effective planning decisions. An LVIA will identify the effects of new developments on views and on the landscape itself, allowing for avoidance, reduction or offsetting.

An LVIA may be instructed as part of the environmental assessment where a development is likely to have a negative impact on the landscape. It may also be instructed as part of the appraisal of development proposals and planning applications.

LVIA reports are written following the guidance and advice of the Landscape Institute (LI) and the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA), as available in the Guidance for Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (GLVIA).

The process follows a standardised and prescriptive approach. It includes an assessment of impacts on landscape character and key receptors affecting visualisation of the site. Photomontages can also be provided upon request.

Lepus has prepared LVIAs across the country for a broad range of clients. Our team is familiar with the production of LVIA reports for sites which vary in nature but include:

• LVIA of solar farms
• LVIA of residential development
• LVIA of commercial development
• LVIA of wind turbines
