The Partnership for Urban South Hampshire (PUSH) is an excellent and longstanding example of local authorities, local partners and government agencies working alongside one another for the greater good of South Hampshire.
The Solent coastline stretches from the fringes of the New Forest National Park down to the harbours around Hayling Island. It is a significant area for housing and economic growth, characterised by a strong maritime heritage, internationally important biodiversity-rich habitats, important logistical connections and attractive countryside lying beyond the urban conurbations that stretches across the Forest of Bere and beyond to the South Downs National Park.
The extent of planned growth requires careful consideration of green infrastructure opportunities at a range of scales and locations. The aims of the strategy are to:
- Identify sub-regional strategic initiatives and project proposals to provide a high quality of life for the people who live and work in the sub-region.
- Seek to maximise multifunctional use of open space and natural spaces for a range of benefits including biodiversity, climate change, the production of food, fibre and fuel, economic investment and activity, health, landscape, recreation and well-being.
- Promote connectivity of all types of greenspace at a range of scales.
- Provide a key element of the sub-region’s mitigation strategy in relation to the Habitats Regulations.
