STRATEGIC ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT

STRATEGIC ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT

High level environmental protection

Strategic Environmental Assessment is a decision-making tool used to identify likely significant effects on the environment within the planning process.

Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) is a requirement for certain plans and programmes, including Local Plans, some supplementary planning documents and neighbourhood plans, through the European SEA Directive. The SEA process aims to make a plan or programme more sustainable by maximising environmental benefits and minimising negative impacts.

Lepus integrates SEA into all stages of the plan-making process so that it positively influences plan development. We work closely with local authorities and neighbourhood planning groups across the country supporting all aspects of the SEA process, including screening, scoping, reasonable alternatives reports, post adoption statements and at Examination in Public.

Our experience in SEA means that we are able to react to key local issues and identify bespoke solutions to promote sustainability. The breadth of technical experience and expertise across our team means that we can confidently assess and advise on all topics listed in Annex 1(f) of the SEA Directive.

We aim to promote multifunctional benefits across all aspects SEA, where possible, to maximise net environmental gains through innovative solutions.
